I have found my learning with Fiona to be both inspirational and motivating.  She is a really gifted teacher and has unlocked for me the world of art as a spiritual practice. She weaves the deeply esoteric concepts that underpin her work in the world into the lesson so that, as an artist, I have a much greater awareness of the “why“ as well as the “what”. It has been a joyful experience.

I am amazed in how Fiona awakens in me, in my soul, such profound experiences about Anthroposofia and Christ, through the studies of Color and their behaviour – also their forms and language. I am a beginner and not much experience in painting, which I think helps me to awaken this part of the soul. I am grateful that through art – in this case, painting – we can organize and harmonize the chaos of our soul.

In the study of the astral and ego organization through this medium, I was able to see my ‘short comings’ as a mirror. At the same time, this study gave an order from the Spirit to my soul.

Painting with Fiona has deepened my artistic experience immensely. Bringing inner life and spiritual activity to colour representation has been challenging and rewarding. Fiona’s depth of knowledge and artistic skill provides a rich tapestry to weave through with many insights on the way.
A wonderful journey.

Fiona Campbell is an excellent teacher who is especially adept at illuminating what it means to engage in artistic activity as a spiritual practice.

Her teachings are grounded in anthroposophical principles but also include a broad knowledge base and experience with various watercolor techniques, art history, art therapy, and the nature of creativity.

Most importantly, Fiona is insightful and sensitive to the needs of her students and will adapt the content of each class session in response to their artwork shared on the class Padlet. Although students of all levels can benefit from her teachings, Fiona’s classes are most meaningful to those willing to work at exploring artistic activity as a way towards self-knowledge and soul development.

I have participated in Fiona’s online painting course for two years and have taken this journey to develop, with the guidance from Fiona, my own art practice. The challenge to remain present and in somewhat control of my thoughts is a discipline I am learning as we work through certain concepts of soul life indicated by Rudolf Steiner’s training exercises.

I also learn from fellow participants from the class discussions and their examples on the platform of Padlet. I am amazed how we paint from the same directions and create completely different paintings – new possibilities opens new pathways of seeing.

It has not always been a comfortable journey as I try to grapple with new ideas and let go of past beliefs, something else arises when I resolve incomplete aspects of a painting in new ways and this is why I have enjoyed this course – to change and see the world differently. Many thanks,
Shirley Bell

I can’t remember how I heard about Fiona Campbell’s online painting classes and talks, but I am so glad I found her!  I have taken several classes and each one has expanded my thinking about painting to consider many new thoughts and ideas.

My background is in traditional fine arts, I attended a NYC College for Fine Art. Fiona’s offerings are very different from what I have been doing and what my background training is. Her focus on color, composition and the meditative/soul aspect of a painter and her paintings is new for me and very inspiring.

Intertwined throughout the painting classes and the exercises is the constant presence of ideas and reading references from Rudolf Steiner which I love.

I have found that joining Fiona’s classes are something that I give to myself at this time, it does fill me with a thankful and expansive feeling of something higher than the material world, touching the soul of the world by working with the paint colors and reading and pondering the related references.

And the ideas and paintings from the other participants in the group are fun to see and inspirational as well!

Fiona’s classes are always stimulating and rewarding.  Her profound understanding and comprehensible delivery of motif or symbol;  or colour mood and gesture; or secular and sacred imagery will lead you to new soul experiences and new ways of seeing the world and the spirit.

I have participated in most of Fiona’s offered courses over the past two years. Both in the artistic realm as well as her courses run through the Stream of Life Research Studio (exploring and experiencing phenomenology-based therapy and research as a contemporary qualitative methodology making links to Anthroposophy).

Both these two streams of learning have been relevant to my continuing professional development as a Creative Arts Therapist as well as personal inner /soul development.

Fiona’s courses are presented in an orderly, accessible manner. There is a good amount of rich content in each workshop and a period of participation with the art and in discussion. The same comment extends to the phenomenological workshops, offering content and exercises to help build the inner organs of seeing behind the visible, plus discussion.

She offers encouragement – always pointing to finding the freedom in our/selves through the given artistic activity but, at the same time, always trying to hold to the integrity of the process. Always reaching for the unknowable behind the obvious known. Truly nourishing!

Over there past 2 years – 2022 and 2023 – I have been very fortunate to be part of Fiona’s online masterclasses, in which we have explored many different aspects of watercolour painting, usually over a series of seven sessions, out of painting indications given by Rudolf Steiner.

Not only were the themes inspiring, but the understanding behind what we were working on and why we were working on it – what we were striving for – brought a depth of engagement and connection not only with the painting itself but also with our understanding of Anthroposophy as a whole.

We never painted to produce more and more beautiful artworks; but rather, through the activity of painting and connecting more and more with the colours, gestures and forms, we could deepen our understanding of ourselves, and ourselves in the world. So not just a painting course, that’s for sure!
