Modern religious ikons, small works on matte card, using watercolour or mixed media.

What began as an experiment for demonstrating ikon technique in a workshop on early painting technique became an experiment, then a passion, then a commission. I sometimes use egg tempera or gouache paint, but prefer chalk pastel, as it can be “moulded” into fine features more easily.

This particular series was created over the 13 Holy Nights, beginning with the Angel of Judgement, there follows one image a night, following Zodiacal indications, but also contrasting the Matthew child with the Luke child and finishing on Epiphany.
